I have been busy studying for an exam the last couple of weeks which is why I have been so quiet on here! I write my exam on December 20 and hope to get back to some more interesting writing after. 🙂
While I’ve been studying I’ve noticed my lack of focus on what I eat. I just want to grab something and keep going. I use the excuse that I don’t have time to think about food. However, I have time to take a 40 minute break to watch my favourite TV show. This makes me wonder why we don’t always put our health first. I’m proactive about my health – I know what’s good for me and what isn’t; I know what I should be doing; I’m not walking around ignorant. I still manage to push health to the back of my priorities when things get busy. It’s so easy to break good habits. Also, it’s not that I’m not aware I’m breaking the good habits – I am, but I just keep doing it!
Last week I bought frozen pre-cooked/processed food (yes, processed!) for the first time in a very long time. It was chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese, and also a chicken vegetable pie. I took the packaging out the box and threw them in the oven. 35 to 40 minutes later the food was ready. On my first bite I remembered why I don’t buy processed frozen foods. They are not very tasty, they have too much salt, and they left me with a stomach ache and weird noises coming from my tummy. Lets not even get into the ingredients list. I much prefer the foods I cook from scratch and, if I’m cooking something I’ve made before, then I can usually whip up something pretty quick.
I’m going to make a conscious effort to change from today. I’m putting a plan into place right now! Planning is key! Eating better and making sure I continue to get some exercise into my week will help me be more focused and alert for when I’m studying and for the upcoming exam, not to mention staying alert at my full-time job.
Wish me luck!
